The Chambers though small promises effective and personal service for the areas stated above and more. Our Counsel have vast experience and knowledge in the areas of their respective specialisation and offer excellent services. The present list of partners and associates include the following:
(i) Chief Idowu Sofola, S.A.N
Chief Idowu Sofola, SAN is the principal of the firm. He was called to the English Bar at Middle Temple Inn of Court, London on July 17, 1962 and enrolled at the Supreme Court of Nigeria on July 30, 1962. He immediately commenced legal practice and has been in active legal since then.
He was elected General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association in 1979 and remained in the office until 1981. Between 1979 and 1983 he was a member of the Legal Aid Council, Member Council of Legal Education, member, Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee and Member General Council of the Bar. He was made a member of the Body of Benchers in 1983 and is now a life Bencher. He is also a life member of the National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association.
Internationally, he served as Assistant Secretary General of the International Bar Association in 1980-1982, Deputy Secretary-General from 1982-1986. He was elected Secretary General of the same in 1986 in New York, as the first African and Indeed the first non-white to be so elected.
Chief Idowu Sofola was in 1989 elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, the equivalent of the English Queen's Counsel.
He is a director in several Nigerian Companies and presently member London Court of international Arbitration. He is still in active practice and heads partcularly the Insurance, Aviation and Maritime Department together with the General Litigation Department.
(ii) A. B. Osiyemi Esq.
Called to the Nigerian Bar in 1976, attended the University of London U.K. and worked as Company Secretary of R. T. Briscoe a Multi National Company in Nigeria. He later joined Societe Generale Bank Ltd. and rose to the position of Deputy General Manager with the bank. He has immense experience in banking and Financial Matters and heads the Banking and Finance Law Department
(iii) Azubike Nwuke Esq.
Attended the University of Lagos, Nigeria and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1984. He has been in Legal Practice since then specialising in Energy and Petroleum Law. He has attended several conferences in this field all over the world and he heads our office in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He is also the head of our Energy and Petroleum Law Department.
(iv) Gbemi Mumuni-Numa (Mrs.)
Attended the University of London, U.K. and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1987. She subsequently went back to pursue a Masters Degree in Law specialising in the Law of Contracts. She is presently seconded as Managing Director of a Security Company.
(v) Olusina R. Sofola Esq.
A graduate of the University of Buckingham, U.K. was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. He immediately joined the firm and had early experience in Litigation. He subsequently concluded a Masters Degree specialising in Company Law. In August 1995 he was appointed a Notary Public in recognition of his devoted years into Litigation. He is a member of the International Bar Association and has attended their conferences twice in New York, in Cannes, France and Amsterdam, Holland amongst others. He enjoys litigation and is presently the Managing Partner of the firm. He also heads the Commercial and Company Law Section of the firm. He is on the board of many companies including Glanvills Enthoven & Co. (Nig) Ltd. (the first indigenious insurance brokers in Nigeria) and AEB insurance brokers Ltd.
(vi) Gertrude Olutekunbi (Mrs.)
She attended the University of Calabar, and got a Bachelor Degree in English. She subsequently went back to the University and this time to the University of Ibadan and obtained a Bachelor Degree in Law before she was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1992. She usually concentrates on chartered secretarial duties for our clients and also assists the partners.
(vii) Olawale A. Adebambo Esq.
He obtained his law degree in the UK in 1991 and worked at the Crown Prosecution Service from 1991 to 1995. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1996. He however went back to England and after applying to undertake his Solicitors exams worked for the firm of Stuart Miller & Co., Solicitors and thereafter at the Law Society Office specifically for the office for Supervision of Solicitors. His experience in English law is helpful and oversees the contract division of the office.
(viii) Godwin A. Okpamen Esq.
He is one of the juniors in Chambers. He was called to Bar in 1998 after working for several years in customs department Nigeria. He was employed to enhance our customs and immigration law department.
(ix) Folabi Kuti Esq.
He finished with 2nd class honours (upper division) from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife. He has considerable ability in the area of research and the writing of legal briefs and opinions. He is very active in the litigation department and has within a relatively short time established himself within the department.
(xi) Omotola Akinboh (Miss)
She is the most recent addition to the chambers. She holds an LLB Degree with 2nd Class Honours (Upper Division) from the Obafemi Awolowo University. A member of the British Council Library and Association of Nigerian Authors. She recently became a member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. She assists with secretarial duties and general litigation.
